"The worst feature of a new baby is its mother's singing." — Kin Hubbard
Sticky little fingers
Reach up to my face
Touch my chin
Smearing yogurt on it
Giggles fill my heart with joy
Chasing him as he crawls
Keeps me on my toes
Rocking him at bedtime
Makes me appreciate each second
A quiet moment for the two of us
To enjoy before he goes to sleep
I whisper a prayer in his ear:
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
May angels watch me through the night
And wake me with the morning light
I hear his calm rhythmic breath
Soothed by my voice and promising words
I feel his lashes on my neck as he slowly blinks
Getting sleepier, groggier with the love he feels from me
I hold him snugly so he can feel the pressure of my arms
So he can know the embrace is always there, even when I’m not
The heaviness of my love will linger on his back
So he can always feel the security of being loved
By his mother, his father
